Finals are killing me!

April 29, 2010 By: hex Category: Uncategorized

Sorry everyone for no blog last week and no blog this week, either. I’ve been completely bogged down with personal matters such as finals and a new (awesome) job. Except an EPIC blog next week!

Pizza-loving Proto-Panties

April 14, 2010 By: hex Category: Announcement

Now that I have your confusion, here’s a quick mid-week post for those of you that haven’t started listening to Nerdy Show yet. First, let’s announce that Nerdapalooza was recently featured in the Orlando Weekly’s Annual Manual, listed as one of twelve Orlando events “you really shouldn’t miss.”

Less a music festival and more a geek pride event, but you’ll be surprised by the bands.

I’d argue that we’re a full on music festival, but not against the bit about it being more of a geek pride event. ^_^

While we’re on the topic of bands, I’d love to announce two more bands that we’ll be showcasing at Nerdapalooza! Local heroes, Emergency Pizza Party will be returning to the stage. We’ll also be hosting for the first time the Ohio comedy music duo,Positive Attitude. Check both out if you haven’t heard them before. We’ll have some more names for ya next week!

Coming up this Monday is a PHENOMENAL event in Orlando involving The Protomen, Killer Robots!, and Krondor Krew. This is gonna be one HELLUVA’n event and you should NOT miss it!! Go over to the Facebook event to reserve and get all the details!!

The last bit of our announcements is something I’m pretty dang excited about. As y’all know, Schaffer the Darklord is gonna be making his way down here and rocking your faces off at this year’s Nerdapalooza. Something you may be aware of is that he is heavily involved in a burlesque show up in New York called Epic Win. Pretty nifty. If only there were some way for him to bring something so awesome to Nerdapalooza…

WHAT’S THAT, SCHAFFER?! THE EPIC WIN GIRLS ARE COMING WITH YOU TO DO A SPECIAL AFTER-HOURS EPIC WIN BURLESQUE SHOW AT NERDAPALOOZA!?!
:) We’re still working on the details, but needless to say it’s going to be pretty awesome. Don’t believe me? Just check out the photo from the recent Batman themed Epic Win show…

Epic Win Batman Cast

WOW!! It’ll be an after-hours show that’ll be $5 at the door, all cash going straight to the girls. This is not going to be something you want to miss!!

That’s all we got for now! Usual blog coming out on Friday. :) Much nerdy love!

As promised… Where to buy tickets and rooms!

April 12, 2010 By: hex Category: Uncategorized

Thanks for your patience, everyone. We wanted to get the information about ticket sales and the venue out ASAP for y’all, so it still took some time to get the rest of the information and links ready for y’all. First up, for those that are ready, here is the link for purchasing tickets. We’re going back to Brown Paper Tickets, as it gives you the option to get physical tickets. Pretty nifty, eh? Keep in mind that the TOP ticket available is for the entire weekend, and the bottom two are for separate days, if you can only make Saturday or Sunday.

Also, as everyone is anticipating, here is the Nerdapalooza group code: fnefnea. Just type that in when reserving at the Orlando Airport Marriott. There’s also this handy-dandy link. You’ll have to put in the dates you’re staying, which, as a reminder, are July 17th and 18th.

Things are coming together!! Listen to Nerdy Show this week for some awesome artist announcements!

Venue, Price, Changes, and MORE!

April 09, 2010 By: hex Category: Uncategorized

I want to start off with thanking everyone for being so patient for the announcing of the venue and apologize for it taking so long to finally get to this point. However, through it all, we are extremely proud to unveil the location of Nerdapalooza 2010.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Orlando Airport Marriott:

Located conveniently close to the airport, this will make transportation between the airport and the venue a non-issue with their complimentary shuttle service. The hotel was recently renovated so it feels and looks better than brand new.

The room that the actual Nerdapalooza musical event will take place in is the Grand Ballroom, which measures to be around 10,000 square feet – almost five times the size of the event area of 2009. This year we will return to a two-stage format. A review of the strengths and weaknesses of the past two years revealed that a prominent factor in staying on time in 2008 and falling behind in 2009 was the presence of a second stage. This also means fewer down times between acts and more prep time so technical issues should drop.

Nerdapalooza attendees will also get a discounted rate in our beautiful venue. $89 a night will get you the amenities of a (X)-Star hotel with two Doubles or a King and the convenience of being only an elevator away from the festivities. To upgrade to an executive king will be $149 a night and to a one bedroom suite will be $169 a night. A part of the renovation has been the inclusion of an addition to the rooms called the Jack Pack where connectivity to computers or video games to the room’s flatscreen televisions is facilitated. They’re still installing Jack Packs in the hotel rooms, starting top to bottom, so when you reserve, make sure you ask for a higher floor. Whatever you choose, you’re definitely gonna want to stay with the Marriott as there will be certain prizes available only to the first two-hundred Nerdapalooza attendees that make reservations there. The Marriott is still working on the details on the room reservations. We will have a direct link to take advantage of the room reservation by Monday at the latest, so we will let you know when that’s public.

Now, before you do anything, I have to let you know that in order to get this venue – our dream location for Nerdapalooza 2010 – we had to change the date. The new date for Nerdapalooza 2010 is July 17th and 18th. This date change has allowed some opportunities and deprived us of others. Sadly, Dual Core will no longer be available to perform due to a scheduling conflict, but we’re already working on getting him for 2011 to make up for it. We had other venue options, but we chose to take the old date and inconveniences that the change might cause and trade it in for a superior overall festival experience. We fully apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but promise that with this venue locked in, it will be an event for the record books. We have updated this site and the Facebook Event to reflect this date change.

Now that we have a finalized date, venue, and at least one headliner, it’s about to time to start selling tickets, right? Well, last year tickets were $30 for the weekend and $20 for individual days. You’d think with a venue vastly larger than last year we might want to raise prices a little. Well, as one more “We’re REALLY sorry” for changing the date, we’ve decided to keep prices at the same level, which means it’ll only be $30 for the weekend of Nerdapalooza 2010 and $20 for individual days. With our lineup expected to be about 30 performances deep, that’ll be about a dollar a performance! Ticket sales will be available by Monday as well, so watch for that post. If any retailers are interested in selling physical Nerdapalooza tickets in your store, feel free to contact hex AT nerdapalooza DOT org for details.

That’s it for this week. Tune in to next week’s Nerdy Show, the official Nerdapalooza podcast, where we will announce a few artists! I look forward to partying with y’all in July!

Much nerdy love,

The [hex] Report Strikes Back!

April 07, 2010 By: hex Category: Uncategorized

So, there is SO MUCH awesome nerdy music releases that I couldn’t contain myself and save it for the Friday blog. That… and we have MUCH to reveal on Friday and we don’t want any of these awesome releases overshadowed by the bit of Nerdapalooza news that you have ALL been patiently waiting for. *WINK*

Now, first off, some epic news from my pal Marc with a C. It’s perfectly worded by him over at this post, so I’ll just let him explain it:

This summer, the “RetroLowFi” compilation will be available on vinyl. Slightly abridged, two LP’s, on red wax. Your head has just exploded.

More details will be made available soon!

DUDE!! Marc with a C on VINYL?! My head HAS honestly exploded!! And here I thought that Shael Riley and the Double Ice Backfire was edgey for releasing Songs From the Pit on cassette at last year’s Nerdapalooza!

Mere MINUTES after we had wrapped Monday’s recording of Nerdy Show, I received this tweet from Genoboost letting me know that Doctor Octoroc had posted the first bit of his much anticipated 8-Bit Dr. Horrible’s Sing-along Game, as you can see for yourself:

Definitely worth the wait since it’s first announcement. I’m sad that we missed announcing it on Nerdy Show, but I’ll definitely let you know that it was a primary contributing factor on whether or not to construct a mid-week blog for y’all. For those just catching up, Doctor Octoroc took it upon himself to do an 8-Bit tribute to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-along Blog, where a few tracks were first leaked over at 8Bit Collective. I actually got to have a chat with the the good Octoroc last night and he said that there are many other projects in the works, so adding Doctoroc’s RSS feed to your reader-of-choice may be a wise decision. Twitter is BLOWING UP over this: not only did the Official @drhorrible twitter report on this, but @FeliciaDay and @ActuallyNPH advertised the project as well! Quick!! Go view the site before it crashes from EVERYONE ON THE INTERNET VIEWING IT!! This is looking to get the Internet Phenomenon of the Week. :)

Next, a brand new release from GM4A Records, A “nerdcore supergroup,” called Torrentz has just released a 6 track EP called Let’s Get Bloody featuring hot artists like MC Wreckshin, Milk-Plus, Fatback Supreme, Betty Rebel, and Ham-STAR. It has some really awesome tracks on it, and at a price of free, you should NOT pass it up!! GOGOGO

That’s it for now. Remember to go to the Nerdapalooza blog this Friday for EPIC LEVEL announcements!! :D

Much nerdy love

Nerdapalooza and the Barrage of Nerdy Musicians

April 03, 2010 By: hex Category: Announcement

This week on Nerdapalooza, we have an array of artists to announce on ya, as well as the creation of a dedicated artist page for convenient perusal, but where’s the drama if I unload that immediately? Let’s run through the [hex] report first, shall we?

First off is a reminder about the Final Boss Club: it’s only $350 for a lifetime pass to Nerdapalooza and a whole heap of prizes. However, if that’s out of your price range, and you’d like to get your mitts on a ticket to Nerdapalooza 2010 before the imminent ticket sale, they are available for $100, and that includes t-shirt, CD, sticker, a thank you and the warm fuzzy feeling of donating to Nerdapalooza.

Next up, released for April Fool’s Day was the relatively unexpected sequel to the old OCR/ThaSauce Duck Hunt Album, ROFL: Repercussions of Fowl Lamentations. Sgt. Rama of ThaSauce coordinated the new parody Duck Hunt HD Remix album in a matter of a few days. The collective of artists somehow developed 32 separate and very unique tracks from a game that has a complete soundtrack that can fit in the period of sixty seconds (sound bytes included). I got to assist as “co-director” by gathering last minute tracks, as well as pump out the following alternative album art.duckHunt

For all you Orlando locals, if you aren’t doing anything tonight (April 3rd), you should head on over to Stardust for the Marc with a C show! I’ve been told it will not only have a wealth of fan favs and new songs but songs that haven’t been played live for a year or two now. Since a recent House episode starred Laura Prepon of That 70s Show fame, it seems like Laura could use some medicine. ;) All details on the show are readily available on the event’s Facebook page.

Next up, we are proud to announce a returning sponsor from last year, Enemy Ink!! For two years now, they’ve made our awesome t-shirts and we’re excited to work with them again. This year, however, there’s a new, fun element to their sponsorship! If you are interested in having merchandise at Nerdapalooza for any reason, they are interested in working with you AND giving you a special Nerdapalooza discount! The fun part? You won’t even need to pick it up! Make the order, and then Team Nerdapalooza will make sure it’s delivered to you on the day of the event. Nifty, huh? Details for that are coming soon!

Well, without further ado, it’s time to reveal some performers! If you had listened to this past week’s Nerdy Show, you would have not only heard an exclusive Krondor Krew track, but also heard those sneaky ninjas will be once again performing at Nerdapalooza! Joining them from the world of nerdcore are the ominous Schaffer the Darklord, returning to blow your mind once again, and, returning after a year off, MegaRan! Next up, we have home town wizarding heroes The House of Black and Fred Lives rocking up a storm, only a week after the opening of Wizarding World, so they may be bringing some more wizardly friends with them. And then to wrap up our announcements this week, I am VERY excited to bring you, from the phenomenal Funny Music Project community: Devo Spice, The great Luke Ski and Worm Quartet, to show you exactly why funny music is awesome! I am a big fan of Devo and Luke, and am REALLY excited to finally get to see Worm Quartet live. Comedy Synth Punk? What can go wrong!?

Well, that’s what we got: an album, a show, a sponsor, and EIGHT new artists! Oh, did I forget to mention the conveniently placed Artist Confirmation page? Sorry it took so long to get that active, but now that we have a third of our acts booked, we thought you’d like it :D

Much nerdy love
